My Version of Mermaids

Chapter 20 of The Living Legend is up and it’s a password protected chapter. It uses the same password as the others in this book, so just follow the links like usual. There are mermaids in this chapter, but they’re not the reason why the chapter is marked mature (though they kind of cut it close I guess).

The merfolk found in the Fatesbane series are kind of the opposite of most species, where the roles of men and women are reversed. In fact, they’re so reversed that men have the babies (like seahorses). But there’s more to it, and it’ll be revealed in another chapter. As for why Tia now hates mermaids, you’ll have to read for yourself 😀

EDIT: (notes taken from the end of chapter notes on Fictionpress) I’ve edited [chapter 20] some due to a review that pointed out a few things that I didn’t mean to portray. Tia being upset wasn’t supposed to be because the mermaids were women, but that she wasn’t used to being hit on by several dozen women- and those who probably did some ‘interesting’ things to her father/ancestors to boot. She’s used to one or two human men, so naturally she’d be put off by the radically different setting. The reason this was misconstrued was because the adult scene in chapter was intended for a long time as a ‘full circle’ where Tia finally takes full control and gives back what Satel gave to her once. But when that optional chapter came up, it kind of ruined the reason for it’s existence. Since I promised many that there would be one more scene, I had to invent a new reason and the mermaids became an unfortunate scapegoat. Tia already made peace with herself about her sexuality, so there was no real reason to exacerbate it as I had done.

Their presence is intended to leave in some clues about Tia and her father, and they do flirt with her. But them being women was not the reason behind her actions. And yes, I did intend for her to force herself on Satel- she might’ve been upset when he did it to her, but she’s not mature enough to figure out that she shouldn’t do it to him, even as revenge for the first act or to dismiss her insecurities. But even so, her actions were not half as bad as what he did to her- she had concerns being in a relationship with him before, while he just wanted a nap first in this scenario.
